Boo's Page
Boo is a man who has
been obligated to stay in his house his entire life. He lives
three houses down from Jem's and Scout's. He is cut off from the
outside world. Every day he lives is lived in his lonely house.
He can observe people
from his front porch's windows. By doing so he sees the images
of two children. He sees a young girl who follows the example
set by her older brother Jem. He also see the image of a loving
father that Atticus is.
Boo, who has no connection,
so no comunication with any one admires that family. He wants
to do something for them, so he does it: (p 278) "Neighbors
bring food with death and flowers with sickness and little things
in between. Boo was our neighbor. He gave us two soap dolls, a
broken watch and chain, a pair of good luck pennies, and our lives."
Boo comunicates with
Jem and Scout by using the knothole. When he does that, it makes
Scout wonder "Why does he leaves objects in the knothole?
Why is he trying to be nice to us?When Maudie's house got on fire, why
did Boo put a blanket on my shoulder? Why didn't Boo go out and
hurt Jem when he went into Boo's porch that night? When Jem got
his pants stuck in the gate, why did Boo fold them?"
So all the things he
did makes Scout change her mind about him. She begins to think
that he is nice and that he is trying to communicate with them,
so when she sees him she is not scared of him.
