Happiness

What Kino and his family wanted the most was happiness. They wanted to live happily with their son. They counted on the pearl to bring them joy and happiness. The villagers who lived in the brush houses weren't very happy and the rich people treated them like animals. Kino would have been the first poor man not to be treated like an animal. However, Kino and Juana weren't satisfied because the pearl brought them only sadness. It killed Coyotito and caused people to hunt for them. Kino thought that if he was rich, he would be happier. He thought there was a sort of link between being rich and being happy. If Kino and Juana had sold the pearl, their lifes would have changed. They could have become someone like the doctor. Therefore, Juana and Kino were not satisfised because the pearl brought them sadness instead of hapiness.
